TMUA Preparation Group: January 2027
Small-group online preparation for TMUA, focused on mathematical reasoning, efficient problem solving, exam strategy and performing accurately under time pressure.
Maximum 6 Students60 Minutes Weekly£40 per Student per 60-Minute SessionHomework and Pre-Course Diagnostic Included
Check your test sitting: Most Cambridge and Oxford applicants must take the October sitting, with limited exceptions for eligible January-deadline courses. Confirm your dates and eligibility in the official UAT-UK guidance.

Why TMUA Preparation Is Different
The challenge is not simply knowing the maths
Many TMUA questions use mathematics that students have already met, but apply it in less familiar ways. The difficulty is often recognising what the question is really asking, identifying a useful structure quickly and choosing an efficient line of reasoning.
TMUA also rewards precision. A solution that relies on an unjustified assumption, overlooks a condition or confuses necessary and sufficient reasoning can fail even when the underlying mathematics is familiar.
These sessions are therefore not designed simply to reteach the A-Level syllabus. Students are expected to arrive with the prerequisite mathematical knowledge. The emphasis is on using that knowledge more intelligently: spotting structure, testing cases efficiently, reasoning carefully, avoiding unnecessary algebra and knowing when a different approach is needed.
The aim is to turn familiar mathematics into reliable problem-solving under TMUA time pressure.
How the TMUA Sessions Work
Efficient Problem Solving
We work on recognising useful structures quickly, choosing an efficient route and avoiding lengthy methods where a shorter argument is available.
Timed TMUA Practice
Students tackle carefully selected questions under realistic time pressure, then analyse where time was gained or lost.
Strategy and Decision-Making
We look at how long to persist with a question, when to move on, how to use the answer choices intelligently and how to protect accuracy when working quickly.
Reasoning, Not Just Solutions
The discussion focuses on what the question was testing, what should have been noticed and how the same idea can be recognised again in a different form.
Before the Course
Before the first lesson, students complete the shared TMUA & ESAT diagnostic and a short TMUA questionnaire.

Example TMUA Resources
I use short guides and targeted practice alongside timed TMUA questions. The precise resources used depend on the diagnostic, the questionnaire and the difficulties that emerge during lessons.
